Earlier this spring & summer, we dealt with an E. coli scare from Germany that eventually infected close to 3,800 people and killed another 42. Now we're dealing with a(nother) Salmonella strain, this time in our turkey. Just yesterday, the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention announced that 76 persons had been infected and 1 had died.
While it will be some time before we only eat natural, organic, free range, pesticide-free, antibiotic-free foods, it's important that we wash our hands and thoroughly cook our foods to minimize our risk for disease transmission. I hate to say it, but I may need to reconsider carpaccio, sashimi, and bloody rare ribeyes.
