Since we're bashing red meat consumption, I figured we'd take another swing at it with a study published this month in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition whereby the authors linked red meat to higher risk of stroke. To be fair, the link was specifically with regards to processed red meat, not fresh or unprocessed meat. Moreover, this was an observational analysis of 40,291 Swedish men 45-79yo w/o history of heart disease or cancer who were followed for more than 10 years.
First colon cancer, then diabetes, and now strokes. Again to be clear, this is enough to generate hypotheses, but not to demonstrate proof of cause & effect. While there's nothing to suggest that we must become vegans, please realize that we have plenty of non-red meat sources of protein, eg fish, fowl & beans/legumes. Should you have an occasional hankering for red meat, I wouldn't worry. I just wouldn't suggest consuming it daily.
