In two articles published early online in the New England Journal of Medicine, the authors arrived a similar conclusions. In one study of 113,752 women & 88,496 men followed for 10 years, the authors concluded that smoking tripled the risk of death compared to never smokers. In the other long-term Cancer Prevention Study I (19569-65) & II (1982-88) and Contemporary Cohort (2000-10), the authors concluded that all-mortality in current smokers was 3x as much as non-smokers. Life expectancy was cut short ~10yrs in both situations.
Bottom line: quit smoking. No good thing can come out of it.
