Thank You, Mrs. Ford, for your Candor & Inspiration
Former first lady, Betty Ford, passed away yesterday. We owe her a debt of gratitude for breaking the silence surrounding breast cancer and alcoholism. For those of you who didn't experience her impact in the 1970s, you have to realize that back then, we never spoke about our health but rather hid it from others. Mrs. Ford gave us our collective permission to talk out loud about cancer and screening, about alcoholism and its treatment, about women's'rights, etc, things that we take for granted today. Without her candor, inspiration, and advocacy, many of us would still be suffering in silence today rather than undergoing treatment in order to have a fulfilled life. Thank you, Mrs. Ford.
